After a long day at the internet cafe Doi Saket, I joined the group in ComPeung and we went to see the dam in the mountains. Fascinating landscape that strangely reminds me of the Quebec forest with its large areas of fresh water surrounded by old, green mountains. From what Ong told us, ancient temples are sunk below the surface of the artificial reservoir, forgotten by modernism. My friend Federico Bonnelli, a big fan of futurism, would be delighted.
It appears that the water level rose over the past years. The place where lied, a year ago, a tiny car parking spot has become a shelter for small fishing boats. The whole place reminded of the Manicouagan reservoir which I visited a few years ago. This is a miniature version. There is this thing that fascinates me in this brutal appropriation of natural habitats by humans, which says a lot about us. The dam that is built here allows farmers from the region to irrigate their crop... a side effect is that fishermen now make a living out of the new treasures offered by the pool. An environment is destroyed... another emerges, different, often unpredictable.
In my country, dams release electrons.
