Entangled

This is a first idea of interest to me for an installation in Thailand. I'm thinking of a wired network of objets to be placed in trees. The objects would all be linked together in a strong network. Because of natural conditions such as weather, branches falling, trees growing, some of the links will break. The objects should have the ability to nonetheless transmit the information.
I have this idea that maybe we should be able to "see" the signals passing from one node to the other. However to be interesting we would thus need to have lots of nodes, which might be a problem.
I haven't yet figured out what would be the intentions/needs of these nodes, nor how they would manifest. A few quick ideas:
- Some kind of "neural network" but yet again that would suppose lots of nodes...
- The nodes follow just one tree (go all around it)
- They try to interact with night insects by using lights (that was another project I wanted to do with solar lamps, but they could be combined in one project)
- They make a complex harmony (sound) a bit like crickets or birds (hmmm... not bad... I like that one)
Ultrasounds?
Meriol here at Avatar just suggested that I could use ultrasounds as a way to influence animal behaviors (such as dogs, bats, etc) For the moment I found this link about ultrasound-emitting animals.

Looking for resources about ultrasound on Google or Youtube reveals a high interest for ultrasound imagery used for obstetrics, medical and veterinarian applications.
Makes me think the objectives of the nodes I am thinking of could be to take a picture of its environment by using ultrasounds or another technique (e.g. photoresistors, wind sensor, etc).
